From the Netherlands to Lower Hutt

Owen Westerhout was born in Utrecht in 1989. He played football first — including at ASV Dronten — then moved to athletics in 2015.

He trained under Sven Ootjers with Topsport Trias in the Netherlands, Christine Harrison-Bloomfield at Lee Valley in the UK, and Fedja Kamasi in Novi Sad, Serbia. Specialising in the 400 metres, he ran 49.17 in Oordegem in 2019, and has coached in Lower Hutt since 2023 as club coach at Lower Hutt Amateur Athletic Club and with the Hutt Valley Harriers juniors.
